Before You Start Organizing

That's it! You've had enough and you want to get organized! Before you start, take a moment to assess the situation. Grab a notebook and a pencil and take some time to ask yourself some questions.
  • What’s not working? Why?

  • What areas create stress? Why?

  • What activities are taking place when you feel disorganized?

  • What areas seem to be working fine? Why?

Your answers will help you identify your problem areas and possible solutions. I recommend starting in one room or one area.

Asking LOTS of questions before I start organizing works for me. For more Works-For-Me ideas, be sure to visit We Are That Family today!

If you've asked your questions and you're ready to start, look for the areas below that you are ready to tackle. (Don't see something you are looking for? Let me know!)

What great ideas! Especially taking a look at specific areas that create stress & are always accumulating clutter and instead of cleaning and organizing, consider WHY so we can better meet that need. Thanks!

Great post (again)!! I may have to come back and read the rest of the organization tips...I looked at the organization of husband and definitely liked that one! Seems he and I are always shuffling our "stuff" to one another's desks!

I've always been a big believer in the "why" ... if you understand the reason behind the problem, you can apply the solution to all sorts of situations.

I think the advice of concentrating on one area at a time works very, very well. Well, it definitely gets me started. It just gets so overwhelming to look at it all. Is there a such thing as mental exhaustion? Because that's what I feel when I look at all the mess. :|

Also, how do you stay motivated to finish the job through?
