I realize that my January Newsletter article, Busy Moms Don’t Need Resolutions, They Need Action Steps! , is a bit detailed. Yes, I tend to focus on details. So I would like to offer a simple thought on goals.
What do you want?
What is the one next action step you can take to get you closer to what you want?

I want a clean kitchen island.
I'm going to get two black paper trays to put on our kitchen desk so that the girls' paperwork can be stored there, instead of strewn all over the island.
I want to find a way to bring in an extra income so I can stay at home with my small children.
What to do about it? It seems like there aren't any good options. :-\
I do write for online magazines and I love it! I'd also like to work at a magazine and be in that whole environment. Unfortunately, I don't live in the media capital of the world, New York City, where ALL of my favorite magazines editorial offices are. So, I've decided to use what I have. There are some major city magazines that are on newsstands, and the editorial offices are very close. So in 2009, I'm going to get to work and do whatever it is I must do to become a part of the team. First step, sprucing up my resume.
Heather, maybe your first step could be making a list of all the ideas you can think of-just do a brain dumb and see what comes up.
Step Two, pick your top 5-10 favorites.
Step Three, investigate and explore each favorite, one by one.
OK, I couldn't help myself.
Arlicle-great goal girl!
Creative Junkie,
Having a spot for the kids to put their papers and stuff is so important! Yes! Maybe the next step could be to empty the trays weekly? Make decisions on each item: take action, take out, or to file?
Again, I just can't help myself!
I want to redo my work -at- home site to become more like a blog but it seems like a huge task and actually taking the time to do it is hard to find. Ho-hum!
Tess,
Instead of looking at the big picture, break it down into steps. When I get overwhelmed with a project and I'm not sure where to start, I do a mind map (I did a post about that here: http://stuff2borganized.blogspot.com/2008/12/last-minute-stress.html. I get all my thoughts out on paper.
Your first step might be to set an appointment with yourself to spend time thinking about this project.
