- Set a budget and stick to it!
- Make a list before you go.
- If you get frustrated with coming up with gift ideas, especially for the hard-to-buy for, create a gift file and write (or type) down ideas as you think of them instead of trying to remember them throughout the year. Pay attention to other gift-giving times of the years. Jot down ideas that family and friends mention.
- Avoid the busy shopping times. Do shopping in the early mornings on the weekends. Do your shopping during the week when stores are less crowded.
- Avoid the stores altogether. Do your shopping online or from catalogs.

What great tips. I always swear I won't have a stressful Christmas season but do every year. I especially like number 2 because not knowing what to buy someone makes me go crazy. I feel like I have to buy the perfect present all the time.
Absolutely avoid the use of credit cards where / when possible. Great tips.
There are some surprisingly cheap deals for clothing at Salestash, www.salestash.com . many nice gifts are under $10, definitely wont break the bank this holidays.
