Inexpensive Container Ideas for Organizing

You don't have to spend a lot of money when it comes to organizing and sometimes no money at all! I like to use containers that I have around the house when it comes to organizing. Filling containers is the forth step in my simple organizing STUFF System™.

To the right is a drawer in my kitchen. The front checkered cardboard box came from a cheese gift basket. I keep my chip clips in a handy location because we use them so much. The back two baskets were odd and ends from my collection of containers. The items I don't use as much are stored in the back.

I believe I picked up this inexpensive basket pictured on the left at Goodwill or a rummage sale. It works perfectly for my home video cassettes. I keep the tapes right by my photo albums, scrapbooks and picture DVDs.

To the right is a picture of my daughter's "hair stuff drawer". I made use of a set of decorative boxes and their lids. Now, this drawer is not always this tidy! When it gets out of hand, we sit down together to resort and reorganize.

To the left is the cabinet in the main bathroom houses mostly kid stuff. On the top self to the left, I simply covered a cardboard box with wrapping paper--that one holds medicine. The container on the top right holds first aid items. I've made use of another decorative box and the lid on the bottom shelf. Extras are kept in the box and the lid holds regularly used items.

I think this is a great idea - so much more economical than buying those organizing systems that never seem to stay attached to each other.

Great post! I love baskets all over my house. Walmart has great cloth covered ones in tons of colors and sizes. I also get wicker ones from Goodwill and yard sales.

For inside cabinets and drawers I buy those little white plastic baskets to organize all our goodies.

Target often has little pails in their seasonal area right where you walk in the door. I love using pails to organize art supplies, kitchen gadgets, etc.

We use old plastic Chinese takeaway containers to separate things in drawers! They work like a charm =)

Those are such great ideas!! If you saw my daughter's drawer full of cluttered headbands, scrunchies, barrettes, hairbrushes, you'd keel over.

I read a tip in a magazine yesterday (which instantly made me think of you because I can totally see you coming up with something this brilliant)....taking an empty cereal box and cut the front, top and back open at a slant and use it to store books or magazines. It's hard to picture it with the way I described it but basically you take the box and turn it into a book holder...such a cool idea!

Next time you are at Target....go to the shoe department and gather some empty shoe boxes (matching ones of course). Ask a sales person if you may have them. Great for drawer and cupboard organizing...sturdy, matching and free!

Remember those soup cans! Teachers use them all the time for pencils and pens. Of course, wrap w/ construction or scrap paper.

Sometimes Michael's has shoe box sales. You can get really pretty shoe/photo boxes 3 for $5. i use them to store everything from cosmetics to playdoh.

Also my whole pantry is organized using plastic baskets from the dollar store.
